The Problem With “Who Lies More” Openers

Neil Strauss says that when he is conducting workshops, he usually go around asking guys for the opener they use. He says that almost half of them say that they use “Who lies more, men or women?” Women usually respond to this by asking “Why are you asking us this?” or “Are you taking a survey or something.”Or by just giving them bad body language and trying to end the conversation as soon as possible.

Neil Strauss say that this became a popular opener few years back. This is a great opener to learn, because it’s so short. But the problem is that it’s imperfect and incomplete. The main problem is that you must have a reason for asking this! Otherwise it’s weird. If you are going to continue to use this opener, you MUST modify it. For example you can say something like “I was reading Esquire today and they did this study, and guess what the results were? My friends and I have been debating about it all day. We disagree.”

Make sure you don’t just ask “Who lies more, men or women?” as you might be labeled weird which we guess is not the exact personality you want to convey.
